OpenWalls

Difusor was born in 2006 as a response to the implementation of the Civic Ordinance regulating activities in public spaces.

Its first activity was the Difusor2007 stencil festival, which brought together more than 120 international artists to Barcelona, intervening in 5 walls located in the districts of Horta-Guinardó, Ciutat Vella, and Sant Adrià del Besós.

From this initial experience, Difusor focused on promoting the first project for managing walls specifically designated for urban interventions, through an online system for automatic permit downloads. The pilot project took shape under the name Galeria Oberta, located on the perimeter wall of Parc de les Aigües (2008-2011).

Starting in 2011, with the disappearance of the wall for urban planning reasons, the project expanded. Now operating under the name Open Walls, it manages 7 walls in Barcelona and its surroundings.

The numbers

The walls managed by the “Open Walls” project have facilitated more than 2500 authorized interventions.
